Sir William Ramsay School smashed its £10K fundraising target, after holding charity events with staff and students in support of The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice.

The school donated £13,910.75 to The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice, collected through various fundraising activities over the past two years.

Year Eight Pastoral Manager at the school Janet Sneesby said: “Our target of £10,000 felt quite ambitious at the time. But instead we made almost £14,000 and we are so proud of this achievement.

“The children got so excited about fundraising and it’s good because it’s relevant to them and the community.

“Most of us know or are going to know somebody who is terminally ill. So raising money for a local charity that caters for that is wonderful.”

Mrs Sneesby explained that the school selected The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice as the nominated charity for two years in a row due to it being a prominent local organisation.

The fundraising activities included: staff head shaves, non-uniform days, a year seven/eight disco, fun run, staff three peaks challenge, cake sales and a sponsored butterfly decorated Christmas tree.

Chief Executive Officer at The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice Jo Woolf said: “The pupils of Sir William Ramsay School have put in so much energy and hard work and have delivered an absolutely brilliant result helping us to fund our new hospice.

“These young students can be truly proud of their achievement they have helped us to raise awareness of our charity and encourage volunteers of all ages.

“It really makes our patients, their families and carers feel very special to know that these young people care enough to fundraise so hard on behalf of their community.

“Because we only receive three percent of funding from statutory sources, we need this kind of help from our local community to fund the invaluable care provided to our terminally ill patients throughout South Buckinghamshire.”

The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice was presented with the cheque during a school assembly with the year eight’s as they announced the form group who raised the highest amount of money, congratulating the winning group with pizza at lunch.
