Charity hero Matt Fowler raced over the London Marathon finishing line on Sunday April 24 to complete an epic long-distance running hat-trick for The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice. The London event was 47-year-old Matt’s third marathon in three consecutive weeks as he set about raising funds for patients with life-limiting illnesses.
He finished the final race in the impressive time of three hours 34 minutes and 16 seconds – just five seconds slower than his time in Brighton a week earlier. And two weeks previously, he recorded a personal best time at Manchester of three hours 16 minutes and 13 seconds.
All in all, he competitively raced more than 78 miles in a little over ten hours in the space of a fortnight on behalf of the charity.
“I was really pleased with my London Marathon time - especially as after eight miles my legs were really tired,” said the father-of-two who lives in High Wycombe.
“I was delighted I still managed to hold on for same time as Brighton, and pleased that I have kept my promise to run three in three weekends for the hospice.
“I hope I can the public will now back me in donating to my JustGiving internet page because the charity is building a new community hospice right now in Totteridge and needs every penny it can get to help give the best possible care to patients.”
Matt, a successful commercial photographer, only took up running three years ago while walking his dog along the Thames at Marlow.
Jo Woolf, Chief Executive at The South Buckinghamshire Community Hospice, said: "Everyone here is so proud of Matt and what he's doing on behalf of our patients. 78 miles in a little over ten hours in a fortnight on behalf of the charity - wow! What a fantastic donation of precious time and energy. It would be wonderful if 500 people now logged into Matt's JustGiving page and donated a pound."
